This classic wooden reproduction is sometimes referred to as the 'kite' design due to its shape. The shape evolved in response to a need for substantial protection against attack while still allowing for individual mobility, particularly on horseback. This shield is typical of what Norman knights in the 11th century would have carried as the Normans established themselves across Europe with serious staying power.
